Is snoring affecting the relationship between you and your partner? Are you suffering from Obstructive Sleep Apnea? If you answer yes to any of these questions, Fotona NightLase® therapy may just be the cure for you.

How to Cure Snoring and Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)?

Snoring and OSA has been bothering humans since ancient times. It’s one of the most common sleep disorders affecting almost a third of the population.

As we know, it affects both men and women although it is more common in men. Many couples dread bedtime due to their partner’s snoring, and this has led to broken relationships.

Thankfully, modern science has given us a number of treatments and solutions, one of them called the Fotona NightLase® Therapy.

Snoring Cure and OSA Device – Fotona NightLase® Therapy

Fotona NightLase® therapy is an effective way to cure snoring and Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). It is a non-invasive laser treatment for improving the quality of a patient’s sleep. NightLase®  decreases the loudness of snoring by opening our oral airways.

This is achieved by using a gentle laser to tighten the collagen in the soft tissues at the back of our mouths.

How is Fotona NightLase® Therapy performed?

  1. You will be lying down with your mouth open during the treatment.
  2. Each treatment takes between 15 to 20 minutes to perform, during which different sections of the back of your mouth will be gently treated with the Fotona Dynamis SP Pro Laser system.
  3. There is no anaesthetic required and no needles or injections.
  4. You will feel a warm sensation of the areas treated during the treatment.
  5. You may still swallow and consume food and drinks as per normal after the treatment
  6. You may start to feel an immediate widening and improvement of the back of the mouth at the end of each treatment, which will further improve over the next few days to weeks.

How does Fotona NightLase® Therapy work?

Fotona’s patented Er:YAG laser uses optimal wavelengths of laser pulses to cure snoring and improve OSA, by safely delivering energy into the oral soft tissues as shown above.

It is a gentle and comfortable laser procedure that can be performed without any topical numbing. But it is also effective in providing clinically significant heating to give good results.

Multiple scientific studies have been conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of NightLase® therapy. Research has shown that up to 90% of treated patients reported significant improvement in their snoring and over 85% success rate in improvement of OSA after a course of three treatments.

In addition, around 80% says that they breathed much better and are more focused and alert. Another study also showed similar results, with three quarters of the treated patients noticing a significant improvement in their snoring.

Is it safe? Is there any downtime?

Patients find NightLase® to be a highly comfortable and satisfying solution. Each session takes about 20 to 30 minutes and does not require any anaesthetic medicine. It also does not have any downtime and patients can resume their regular activities immediately after treatment.

How many sessions do I need?

A full course of NightLase®  comprises three separate treatment sessions over a six week period. The final results of the treatment have been shown to last up to a year. When the patient or partner notices the effect wearing off, the treatment should be repeated.

How does NightLase® compare to other solutions?

NightLase® vs Surgery

Compared to surgical treatments such as Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP), NightLase® is less costly and also less painful with less downtime or recovery. Plus, surgery also does not guarantee long term results.

In a study, more than 50% of patients who underwent UPPP had a recurrence of snoring after a year.

It’s important to note that there are no permanent solutions for snoring. Compared to surgery, NightLase® can be performed again when the soft tissues in your airways start to loosen.

NightLase® vs Oral Appliances

Other non-surgical treatments for snoring reportedly can be uncomfortable. Nasal dilators and oral appliances have a limited compliance rate due to discomfort, and have to be used nightly.

They also have a limited effect on snoring if the root cause of snoring is due to floppy soft tissues at the back of the mouth.

Patients who suffer from Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) may consider the Fotona NightLase therapy, but should also continue the use of their CPAP machines. However, the compliance rate is also suboptimal due to discomfort with CPAP machines.

In comparison, NightLase®  does not require any device to be worn during sleep and involves no invasive or chemical treatment. It’s a relatively more convenient and comfortable way to regain a good night’s rest for you and your partner.
