Does your snoring affect you and your bed partner’s sleep, and are you worried about the potential lifestyle and health consequences of snoring or Obstructive Sleep Apnea? Well, snoring is not untreatable, Fotona NightLase® Pro can help improve your symptoms, so you can sleep better.

What is Fotona NightLase® Pro, and how does it help with snoring?

Fotona NightLase® is a non-invasive laser treatment designed to reduce snoring and alleviate symptoms of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA).

Snoring happens when the muscles at the roof of your mouth, tongue, and throat relax, causing partial airway blockage. As air flows through this narrowed passage, it causes the soft tissues to vibrate, creating the sound of snoring.

Fotona NightLase® overcomes this issue by using laser energy to heat the tissues in the throat (as shown below), stimulating collagen production and tightening the oral mucosa.

Fotona NightLase Treatment Areas in Mouth

This results in an expanded airway, which helps reduce the vibrations that cause snoring. The procedure is quick, requires no anaesthesia or downtime, and typically shows noticeable improvements after a few sessions.

How effective is Fotona NightLase® Pro for snoring treatment?

Research has shown that up to 90% of treated patients reported significant improvement in their snoring and over 85% success rate in improvement of OSA after a course of three treatments.

In addition, around 80% say that they breathed much better and are more focused and alert. Another study also showed similar results, with three quarters of the treated patients noticing a significant improvement in their snoring. Both patients and their bed partners reported significant improvements in sleep-related health status.

The Mallampati Score

Fotona NightLase® aims to improve Mallampati score (above), a classification system used to assess your risk of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and snoring. The higher the class, the more likely you are to snore.

How Is Fotona NightLase® Pro Therapy Performed?

You will be lying down with your mouth open during the treatment.

  1. Each treatment takes between 15 to 30 minutes to perform, during which different sections of the back of your mouth will be gently treated with the Fotona Dynamis SP Pro Laser system (Er:YAG laser).
  2. We add on a proprietary Nd:YAG laser step to further tighten the oral mucosa tissue and enhance results.
  3. There is no anaesthesia, needles or injections required.
  4. You will feel a warm sensation of the areas treated during the treatment.
  5. You may still swallow and consume food and drinks as per normal after the treatment
  6. You may start to feel an immediate widening and improvement of the back of the mouth at the end of each treatment, which will further improve over the next few days to weeks.

At SL Clinic, we add in a long-pulsed Nd:YAG laser on top of the conventional Er:YAG laser for enhanced results. As snoring can be caused by many factors including weight issues, your treatment plan may involve our sister clinic, The Lifestyle Medical Clinic. This comprehensive and holistic approach ensures that all contributing factors are effectively addressed for better results.

How Does NightLase® Pro Compare To Other Solutions?

NightLase® Vs Surgery

Compared to surgical treatments such as Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP), NightLase® is less costly and also less painful with less downtime or recovery. Plus, surgery also does not guarantee long term results.

In a study, more than 50% of patients who underwent UPPP had a recurrence of snoring after a year.

It’s important to note that there are no permanent solutions for snoring. Compared to surgery, NightLase® can be performed again when the soft tissues in your airways start to loosen.

NightLase® Vs Oral Appliances

Other non-surgical treatments for snoring reportedly can be uncomfortable. Nasal dilators and oral appliances have a limited compliance rate due to discomfort, and have to be used nightly.

They also have a limited effect on snoring if the root cause of snoring is due to floppy soft tissues at the back of the mouth.

Patients who suffer from Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) may consider the Fotona NightLase therapy, but should also continue the use of their CPAP machines. However, the compliance rate is also suboptimal due to discomfort with CPAP machines.

In comparison, NightLase®  does not require any device to be worn during sleep and involves no invasive or chemical treatment. It’s a relatively more convenient and comfortable way to regain a good night’s rest for you and your partner.

Is Fotona NightLase® Pro Uncomfortable?

Fotona NightLase® is a non-invasive laser snoring treatment in Singapore with minimal discomfort. It does not require the use of local anaesthesia or the use of additional devices after the procedure.

How Much Is Fotona NightLase® Pro?

Our Fotona NightLase Pro® Therapy is priced at $800-1000 per session.

FAQ

NightLase has over 85% success rate in improving symptoms of OSA.

The effects of NightLase® can be seen after the first session. You should notice a reduction in your snoring starting the first night after your initial treatment, with further improvement over the next few months.

For full effectiveness, it is recommended to undergo three sessions spaced one month apart.

Results last at least a year.

NightLase® treatment typically has no side effects. After the procedure, you can talk, eat, and drink as usual. You may experience a mild sore throat the following day, so we recommend staying well hydrated afterward.

There is no downtime. You are free to resume your daily activities after.

It is important to note that while NightLase can reduce symptoms of OSA and consequently improve sleep quality, it is not a cure for OSA.

While NightLase® laser technology is safe for treating snoring in children, at our clinic, patients under 21 years old require parental consent for the procedure.

If our doctors identify underlying health issues contributing to your snoring, we may refer you to our sister clinic, The Lifestyle Medical Clinic, for concurrent treatment alongside NightLase® to enhance your results.
