The long-pulse Nd:YAG laser reaches into the deeper skin to create heat at set depths, without damaging the surface. At those depths it works on acne in two ways:
Laser Acne Treatment (净痘雷射) can also help reduce the risk of scarring by calming inflammation and supporting the skin’s natural repair process. As the laser targets acne-causing bacteria and oil production, it also encourages collagen renewal, helping the skin recover from active breakouts with less risk of scarring
You can return to daily activities afterwards.
Acne laser addresses both acne bacteria and excess oil.
By calming inflammation, acne laser can help reduce the risk of scarring from active acne.
Each acne laser session at SL Aesthetic Clinic is carried out by a qualified medical doctor.
Acne laser fits alongside medications, peels and other treatments as part of a complete plan.
Laser Acne Treatment (净痘雷射) is generally well tolerated, and most patients don’t require numbing cream. For patients who prefer extra comfort, a numbing cream can be applied beforehand, and our doctor checks in throughout the session to ensure you’re comfortable.
At SL Aesthetic Clinic, we prioritise your comfort at every step — adjusting settings and pacing as needed so the treatment stays comfortable
Our doctor assesses your acne and confirms whether laser suits your skin and your type of acne.
The skin is cleansed. Numbing cream can be applied if you'd like it.
Our doctor passes the laser over the treatment area. Most patients describe a warm sensation.
Our doctor will go through simple aftercare and your overall acne plan with you. You can return to daily activities after your session.
Acne results depend less on the machine and more on the doctor treating you: the assessment, the type of acne diagnosed, the settings chosen for your skin, and the judgment to know where the laser fits in your plan.
Every Laser Acne Treatment (净痘雷射) at SL is performed by a medical doctor holding the Certificates of Competence recognised by the Singapore Medical Council’s Aesthetic Practice Oversight Committee (APOC). Just as important, every doctor works to the same treatment protocols, developed and overseen by our founder and Senior Medical Director, Dr Kelvin Chua, so you get consistent standard of care at any of our clinics, regardless of which doctor you see.
| Results | Breakouts settle gradually over a course of sessions as the laser calms active acne. Our doctor will set realistic expectations for your skin. |
| Downtime | None. Most people return to their day straight after, sometimes with mild warmth or redness in the treated area that settles on its own. |
| Treatment Frequency | Laser works best as a course of sessions, and as one part of a complete acne plan. Our doctor will recommend a plan suited to your skin at consultation. |

Every laser acne session is performed by an APOC-certified doctor.
We treat acne as a whole, combining laser with other treatments where it helps, rather than as a one-off.
We have over 20 years of experience in aesthetic medicine in Singapore, with Laser Acne Treatment (净痘雷射) available across our clinics islandwide.

For active acne, Nd:YAG laser is a common choice because it targets acne bacteria and oil without downtime. Acne scars and pitted scarring are treated with different lasers designed for scar remodelling.
Yes. Nd:YAG laser targets overactive oil glands to help reduce excess oil, which is one of the factors behind acne. Our doctor will assess whether it suits your skin at consultation.
Side effects are usually mild, such as short-lived warmth or redness that settles on its own. Our doctor will go through what to expect for your skin.
Patients with mild to moderate acne typically require about 3 to 6 sessions, while those with moderate to severe acne may need up to 9 sessions or more. Treatment sessions are performed once every 2 weeks.
Results are gradual and accumulative, so the “final” result can only be seen after your final session.
Each Nd:YAG Laser Acne treatment session can take around 15 to 20 minutes. An optional 30-min numbing can be done prior to the session if desired.
There are no side effects other than slight redness and mild swelling of the treatment area. These will subside in a matter of hours.
There is virtually no downtime. You are free to return to your daily activities. We recommend that patients avoid prolonged sun exposure for the next few days to prevent hyperpigmentation.
Once your acne is fully treated as part of a comprehensive acne treatment plan, it is unlikely that you’ll require any maintenance sessions.
This is because the Laser not only treats active acne, but also limits and prevents future inflammation.
Pre-treatment instructions: ensure that you’re in a good state of health and not suffering from any bacterial, fungal or viral infection in the treatment area. Always disclose your full medical history during consultation, including supplements and other medications you may be taking.
Plan ahead; avoid any ablative lasers at least 4 weeks prior, and schedule your treatment at least 1 week ahead of a special even as the skin may take up to 7 days to fully heal from the laser.
Also inform the doctor at least a week before treatment if you have any history of Herpes Simplex (cold sores) on the treatment area so that the appropriate medication can be prescribed to prevent an outbreak.
While pregnant women are free to enjoy this treatment, you must also inform your doctor about your pregnancy, or plan for pregnancy or if you are nursing.
Inform your doctor if you have other skin conditions (e.g., eczema, psoriasis) or have any unusual or allergic reactions to any ingredients or topicals.
Do not use products that can cause irritation such as alcohol-based facial products, abrasive scrubs, and toners or products containing glycolic acids or Retin A.
Post-treatment instructions: after each treatment session, avoid prolonged sun exposure for the next 7 to 10 days. Also avoid tanning beds or tanning booths and sunlamps. Continue to wash and moisturise your face with a gentle cleanser and moisturiser for the next few days and always use sunscreen.
It can also be considered should other acne treatments prove unbeneficial, or if the patient is unable to receive other acne treatments or medications.
Any healthy adult looking to treat an active acne condition, no matter how mild or severe.
The Long Pulse Nd:YAG Laser Acne Treatment may be unsuitable in the following circumstances:
Following your laser procedure, you can do a gentle, machine-free basic facial 2-3 days later. For treatments such as I2P1, M22, and RF, we recommend waiting for a duration of 2 weeks.
