Skin Rejuvenation Treatment in Singapore

  • I regret taking care of my skin — said no one, ever!

As you age, your skin begins to tell your story — long days spent out in the sun, the various breakouts, the late nights, the weight gain or loss you’ve gone through. These are all factors that change how your skin ages. It can lead to textural irregularities like wrinkles, acne scars, freckles and sunspots. Luckily, today, these can be corrected with skin rejuvenation treatments! There are now various treatment methods of skin rejuvenation in Singapore — let’s explore more about them.

How does Skin Rejuvenation Work?

Sun, skin disorders, ageing and even genetic factors can all contribute to skin irregularities on the face and elsewhere on the body. These include the likes of textural irregularities such as wrinkles and acne scars as well as pigmentation issues like freckles, sunspots or visible blood vessels. Additionally, as you age, you will start noticing that your skin starts to lose its tone, feel less firm and lose the healthy glow that is evident in younger skin.

Here’s the good news — there are now plenty of treatments available to tackle these different skin irregularities!

A common method used to rejuvenate skin is via skin resurfacing. This a method that refers to any treatments or procedure that aims to remove the top layer of your skin. The goal of resurfacing is to remove damage cells on the skin’s surface with different techniques, including the likes of chemical peels, lasers, ultrasound or radio-frequency technology. These treatment methods encourage the production of collagen and elastin at the surface level of your skin — with that process, you’ll have a renewed and youthful skin surface where the treatment was applied. These different methods will vary in their process, invasiveness and treatment outcomes.

What are the Available Skin Rejuvenation Treatments in Singapore?

Chemical Peel Treatment

Chemical peels use a variety of different chemical formulas that can be used for the face or other areas of the body for a rejuvenating effect. The chemical solutions dissolve dead skin cells, peeling them off for new skin to grow in their place, giving you a new layer of rejuvenated skin. There are a wide variety of chemical solutions used to treat different skin concerns.

Broadly categorised alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) and beta hydroxy acids (BHAs)-based peels, some are safe to be used at home, while others provide moderate to deep peels that require neutralising agents and professionally-controlled applications.

For example, the Cosmelan peel system uses a combination of kojic acid, arbutin, and other several active ingredients to effectively tackle melasma and other unwanted pigmentation. Made by several types of fungus, kojic acid is also a by-product in the fermentation of Japanese rice wine. Kojic acid has skin whitening properties and is usually combined with glycolic acid or other skin lightening agents such as arbutin to increase penetration and efficacy.

The benefits of chemical peels include:

  • Treat and control acne formation, such as comedones (blackheads and whiteheads)
  • Improve the appearance of mild and superficial acne marks and scars
  • Lighten mild pigmentation such as sun spots, age spots, and freckles
  • Minimise fine lines and wrinkles caused by chronic sun damage. It cannot treat severe wrinkles

Laser Resurfacing Treatment

Laser resurfacing uses light and heat energy to “destroy” thin sections of skin. To put it simply, your aesthetic practitioner will use a form of laser to remove the top layer of skin while heating the underlying layers. This stimulates the growth of new collagen fibres, resulting in new skin growth to achieve a smooth and youthful outcome. One of the benefits of laser resurfacing is that it causes little damage to the surrounding skin, making it ideal to use in sensitive areas.

A few of the common laser skin rejuvenation treatments in Singapore include:

PICO Laser Treatment

The Pico Laser is a non-ablative pigment laser that works in ultra-short 450 picosecond laser pulses. It has a photo-acoustic effect, which means that a picosecond laser shatters pigmentation into smaller fragments which are more easily removed by the body’s immune system. Pico Lasers have been shown to improve skin texture and pore size. Results in the treatment of acne scarring are also comparable to fractional ablative laser treatments such as Fractional CO2 Laser.

Some of the conditions that Pico Lasers can treat include:

  • Epidermal (Superficial) Pigmentation
  • Solar Lentigo (Sunspots, Age spots, Liver spots)
  • Freckles
  • Seborrhoeic keratosis
  • Congenital Melanocytic Nevus (Moles)
  • Dyschromia (uneven skin tone)
  • Dermal (Deeper) Pigmentation
  • Melasma
  • Nevus of Ota
  • Tattoos
  • Acne Scars
  • Enlarged Pores
  • Rosacea

Q-Switched Laser Treatment

Commonly used for its laser toning effect, the Q-Switched laser is a safe and effective treatment that improves overall skin tone, skin texture, regulates skin oil production, and minimises pore size. This treatment is performed by a practicing aesthetic doctor who uses the laser technology Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser which emits a beam of energy targeting a specific depth of the skin.

This form of laser treatment doesn’t damage the skin surface to produce beneficial results!

A few of the benefits of the Q-Switched Laser treatment include:

  • Able to be individually tailored for you with a personalised treatment plan. The goal is to enhance treatment efficacy, as opposed to no-frills lasers that are standardised for everyone.
  • As a non-ablative laser, downtime is minimal. Apart from a slight flush which may last for a few hours, makeup can be used as desired and you can return to daily activities immediately after treatment.
  • Can be combined with other treatments to produce a cohesively pronounced result.

Fractional CO2 Laser Treatment

Fractional CO2 Laser, or fractionated carbon dioxide laser, is an ablative laser commonly used to treat depressed atrophic acne scars and uneven skin textures. It is also effective in rejuvenating aged skin, reducing the appearance of enlarged pores, fine lines and wrinkles. Fractional CO2 Laser is a non-invasive, non-surgical procedure performed in an outpatient setting. It delivers laser energy in a “fractionated” or “pixelated” manner – a grid of light is beamed into the deep layers of skin while at the same time leaving pockets of skin untouched!

A few of the benefits of Fractional CO2 Laser Treatment include:

  • Improvements in skin texture
  • Reduction in depressed, atrophic acne scars or surgical scars
  • Minimised and reduced pore size
  • Can be paired with other acne scar treatments to treat varying types of acne scarring

Fotona 4D/5D Laser Treatment

The Fotona4D Face Lift & Skin Tightening Laser is a non-surgical procedure that addresses skin laxity, wrinkles, sagging skin, uneven skin tones and facial textures. It is a non-invasive treatment that has the potential to provide benefits similar to more invasive treatments such as thread lift, botox and filler injections.

The “4D” in Fotona refers to the four steps above that this treatment uses to tackle a variety of skin concerns. These four modes work synergistically to penetrate into the deeper, medial, and superficial connective structures of the skin for a more cohesive overall result compared to individual and separate treatments. As a whole, the Fotona 4D / 5D Laser Lift & Rejuvenation stimulates collagen contraction, giving you improved skin tightness and with time, skin elasticity due to the increase in collagen production. It works by treating both the exterior of the skin of your face as well as from the inner oral cavity (the underside of your cheeks) to provide lifting of the mid-face from within.

Here are some of the benefits of Fotona 4D/5D laser treatments:

  • Non-invasive, non-injectable, low downtime
  • Improves skin laxity and elasticity
  • Tightens facial tissues for a lifted look
  • Improves scarring, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation
  • Improves pigmentation and uneven skin tone
  • Minimises fine lines and pore size
  • Gently exfoliates the skin and improves skin texture

Other Forms of Skin Rejuvenation Treatments

High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) Treatment

HIFU V Sculpting is a non-surgical, non-invasive procedure that uses High Intensity Focused Ultrasound to lift, tone and tighten loose and saggy skin on the brow, neck, chin and décolletage. HIFU V Sculpting focuses a controlled amount of ultrasound energy at a set depth to generate localised heat, much like a magnifying glass focusing light rays at a certain point and depth. When applied to the skin at a suitable depth, this heating of the skin tissue causes cellular damage.

While this may seem counter-intuitive, the damage actually stimulates the cells to produce more collagen — a protein that provides structure to the skin. The increase in collagen results in tight, firm skin with less wrinkles. Since the high-frequency ultrasound beams are focused on a specific tissue site below the skin’s surface, there’s no damage to the upper layers of the skin and adjacent issue.

HIFU has many aesthetic benefits, including:

  • Tailored to suit each patient’s needs, ranging from superficial to deep skin concerns
  • Ability to perform heavy-duty lifting of the skin
  • Lifts and tones loose skin
  • Elevate sagging skin, especially in the brows
  • Firm and tighten the neck, double chin
  • Sharpen the face
  • Reduce the appearance of fine lines
  • Able to treat brows, face, double chin, neck, décolletage and even buttocks

Thermage FLX Treatment

Thermage FLX is a treatment of wrinkles on the face and eyelids, and can also be used on other parts of the body. Thermage uses monopolar capacitively coupled radiofrequency (RF) energy to tighten and contour skin. This technology allows the RF energy to penetrate deeper than lasers, into the dermis and subcutaneous tissues. It is in these layers where collagen is stimulated, resulting in the tightening of the skin. The top-down heating approach of Thermage means it is able to treat many superficial skin concerns – wrinkles, pores, and texture. Thermage’s skin tightening results typically fully realise after 6 months, and can last up to 2 years.

It is important to note that results will vary by the individual. Age is an important factor that determines how long results can last. As a general rule of thumb, the older you are, the less responsive you’ll be to collagen-stimulating procedures such as Thermage.

Some of Thermage’s many benefits include:

  • Tightening crepey skin
  • Smoothening wrinkles and fine lines
  • Improving skin texture and pore size
  • Visibly firmer skin
  • Collagen production is stimulated over time for longer-lasting results
  • Treat wrinkles on many parts of the face, eyes, and body
  • Can be coupled with other skin tightening treatments for beneficial results

Ultherapy Treatment

Ultherapy relies on ultrasound therapy to deliver collagen-boosting effects to gradually lift and tighten the skin — without surgery or downtime. It is capable of treating the deep layers of skin tissue without affecting the skin’s surface. It also includes traditional ultrasound imaging, which allows us to see the layers of tissue we are treating, ensuring that the treatment energy is delivered where it is most beneficial.

A few of Ultherapy treatment’s key benefits include:

Builds New Collagen

Ultherapy® stimulates the production of collagen by delivering concentrated ultrasound energy to the base layer of the skin that is typically treated in cosmetic surgery — without cutting or disrupting the surface of the skin.

Without Toxins Or Injections

Unlike lasers, radiofrequency, surgery and other technologies, Ultherapy’s non-surgical ultrasound bypasses the surface of the skin to deliver a controlled amount of ultrasound energy to a specific depth and temperature. This energy triggers a natural response under the skin, which begins a regenerative process that produces fresh, new collagen.

No Downtime. Natural Results. Many patients see an immediate effect right after their procedure, but the actual results appear over a course of 2−3 months. This happens as new collagen is produced to lift and tighten the skin on the neck, chin and brows.
