How To Use Soolantra Cream for Effective Rosacea Treatment – FAQs

What are the steps in using Soolantra cream?

The instructions below are particularly for patients of SL Clinic.

Follow these steps when using Soolantra cream:

Day time use

  1. Wash your face thoroughly with SL Clinic’s medical cleanser or any gentle cleansers of similar quality.
  2. After drying your skin, apply SL Clinic’s medical hydrator evenly on your face.

Next, use SL Clinic’s medical sunscreen. Make sure that the face and neck are completely covered and absorbed in before applying make up.

Night time use

1st week

  1. Wash your face thoroughly with SL Clinic’s medical cleanser or any gentle cleansers of similar quality.
  2. After drying your skin, mix SL Clinic’s medical hydrator intense and Soolantra cream together and apply evenly on the face. Follow the amount as shown in the picture below.

It is important that these instructions are followed properly to get optimum results. If you are unable to use Soolantra as strictly prescribed, let our doctors know. This will help them properly assess your condition and make changes to your treatment plan if needed.

Can Soolantra be used in combination with other medications or treatments?

It is best to let your doctor know about the medications and treatments that you are taking prior to using Soolantra, so they may be able to advise you properly if there are any contraindications when these are used simultaneously with Soolantra cream

At SL, Soolantra is typically used to treat rosacea in conjunction with the following treatments: Sylfirm X, Rosacea Laser, Profhilo, Plinest, IYASHI.

Can cosmetics be applied while using Soolantra?

Yes, you can use cosmetics while using Soolantra. Be sure to let the cream dry completely before applying make up to the face.

What are the side effects of Soolantra cream?

Similar to any other medications, using Soolantra can develop some side effects. These are the common side effects that you can expect while using the product: 

  • a slight burning sensation in the skin during application.
  • Initial aggravation of rosacea 
  • dry skin
  • facial swelling and redness
  • skin irritation or itchiness

These mild side effects are usually expected and should be temporary only. Consult with your doctor if you feel like the side effects are persistent.

Soolantra rarely has any major or serious side effects, but urgently seek medical attention and stop using the product if you are experiencing any of the following:

  • Breathing problems, such as wheezing or shortness of breath
  • Prolonged or excessive itching 
  • Presence of hives or rash in the skin
  • Swelling in any area of the face or body

FAQ

Soolantra Cream is a topical medication primarily used to treat the inflammatory lesions caused by rosacea, a chronic skin condition that causes redness and visible blood vessels in the face. Soolantra works by reducing inflammation and targeting the Demodex mites that are believed to contribute to rosacea symptoms. 

The active ingredient that makes Soolantra effective in addressing rosacea is ivermectin. This medication is not addictive and may only be bought with a prescription from a doctor.

Soolantra should only be used on the surface of the face’s skin. It must not come in direct contact with the eyelids, eyes, lips, or mouth. Immediately rinse with water if the cream touches any of these areas.

Your doctor will give you specific instructions for how long Soolantra should be used according to your treatment plan.  Soolantra should be used daily during your treatment.

There is no need to worry when you forget to apply Soolantra. You can just skip and use the product as instructed on the next application schedule. Do not double the amount to compensate for the dose you missed to avoid any complications.

After using Soolantra cream, store the tube in a cool dry place. Keep it away from damp places, direct sunlight and from temperatures exceeding 30℃. Do not freeze the product.Store it in a place that is out of children’s reach.

Soolantra contains 10 mg of ivermectin per 1 g of the cream. The other ingredients of the product are:

  • carbomer copolymer (type B)
  • ceteareth-20  sorbitan stearate  
  • cetyl alcohol  stearyl alcohol 
  • citric acid monohydrate  
  • dimethicone 20  
  • disodium edetate  
  • glycerol  
  • isopropyl palmitate  
  • methyl hydroxybenzoate (E218)  
  • oleyl alcohol   
  • phenoxyethanol  
  • propylene glycol  
  • propyl hydroxybenzoate (E217) 
  • purified water
  • sodium hydroxide

Soolantra cream consists of ingredients that may cause allergic reactions or trigger health risks. To ensure your safety, inform your doctor if:

  • are allergic to ivermectin or any known medications
  • are breast-feeding
  • are or have been diagnosed with kidney or liver disease
  • are pregnant or planning to get pregnant

One clinical trial found that Soolantra cream has effectively and safely treated rosacea inflammations in patients. Patients who used Soolantra in the trial rated the product results as excellent or very good after using it for 12 weeks.

Soolantra Cream comes in a plastic tube concealed with a plastic cap. The content is a cream that is white to yellow in colour. The tube sizes are available in 2 g, 5 g, 30 g, 45 g, or 60 g. Each product shows an expiry date printed on the packaging.

The time that it takes for improvements to show while using Soolantra may vary depending on the severity of your rosacea’s condition and your response to the treatment plan. For many patients, improvements can be observed after four weeks of regularly using Soolantra. 

If you do not notice any significant improvement after three months, do inform your prescribing doctor.

Soolantra is not a steroid. Its main ingredient is ivermectin, which has a different effect when used on the skin. Ivermectin works by dealing with demodex mites, which are tiny parasites that aggravate rosacea.
