Everything You Need To Know About Nose Fillers in Singapore

The nose filler treatment is sought after amongst East Asians such as those in Singapore. This is due to our genetic predisposition to having flat, stubby noses. With our non-surgical nose fillers, you can achieve a higher and straighter nose bridge, and a sharper, more projected nose tip in less than 30 minutes.

Nose filler is a non-surgical alternative to plastic surgery (rhinoplasty) that uses hyaluronic acid dermal fillers to augment, shape, and transform your nose. The goal is to correct any imperfections, while enhancing the aesthetic profile of your nose.

What is a nose filler?

A nose filler treatment in Singapore is a non-surgical rhinoplasty that uses gel-like hyaluronic acid dermal fillers to improve the shape and look of your nose bridge and nose tip.

How do nose fillers work?

Nose fillers work by adding volume (volumising) to areas of the nose that need them.

As an example, your nose bridge may look short and low before. Nose fillers are introduced to “bridge” the gap, adding volume and definition for a heightened nose bridge after.

Your nose tip may also look underprojected and stubby before. Nose fillers can be introduced into the “columella”, the wall separating your nostrils, pushing your nose tip forward for a more projected and sharper nose tip after.

How is a nose filler treatment performed?

Here’s the nose filler treatment process at SL Aesthetic Clinic in Singapore.

Step 1: Once you’ve been assessed to be suitable for nose fillers after a consultation with our doctor, topical anaesthetic (numbing) cream is applied to the nose tip or at top of your nose bridge.

The anaesthetic cream is left on for about 15 to 30 minutes to numb these spots and prepare your nose for the filler injections.

Step 2: After the nose has been suitably numbed, the doctor then injects hyaluronic acid fillers into your nose. Most brands of hyaluronic acid fillers contain some anaesthetic (lidocaine) to improve patient comfort during the nose filler treatment.

To add height to your nose bridge, fillers are injected either through the nose tip or at the top of your nose bridge. The former injection point is used when an overall nose bridge heightening and volumising is desired. The latter injection point allows the doctor to fill in any gaps in your nose bridge.

The doctor may also inject the filler through both points if more heightening and definition is required in your nose bridge.

Step 3: To project and sharpen your nose tip, filler is injected via the point on the nose tip and into the “wall” separating your nostrils, medically known as the “columella”.

Step 4: Finally, the doctor gently moulds and massages the filler in your nose to achieve the desired results.

How long do nose fillers last?

Nose fillers can last approximately 9 to 12 months, depending on the brand of filler used, and other factors such as patient metabolism, lifestyle habits (smoking, alcohol consumption), diet, sleep, exercise, genetics, and more.

During this period, your body naturally metabolises and breaks down the hyaluronic acid filler. To maintain your non-surgical rhinoplasty nose filler results, we advise you to return after every 9 to 14 months for repeated nose filler treatments. It is safe to repeat nose filler treatments.

Can nose fillers be permanent?

Hyaluronic acid-based nose fillers are not permanent since they are broken down by your body. Plus, if you do not like the results, you can wait for it to disappear, or have it dissolved by our doctor.

There are, however, “semi-permanent” fillers not made with hyaluronic acid that do not disappear like hyaluronic acid fillers do. These semi-permanent fillers may last for several years and also cost more. They cannot be dissolved should a patient dislike the result or if the procedure was executed poorly. Semi-permanent fillers can only be surgically removed.

This is why at SL Aesthetic Clinic in Singapore, we may only perform semi-permanent nose fillers on patients who have had several temporary hyaluronic acid nose fillers and liked the results that they got. We also prefer not to perform semi-permanent nose fillers on patients entirely new to nose fillers or nose augmentation.

What brands of nose fillers are there?

There are a myriad number of HSA-approved dermal fillers in Singapore that can be used for nose filler augmentation.

How many ml or cc of filler is used in a nose filler treatment in Singapore?

On average, our patients require about 1ml or 1cc of nose filler to see a good result or improvement to their nose profile. That is equal to 1 syringe of filler for most filler brands.

Of course, this varies by the individual as everyone’s needs differ.

How long does it take for nose fillers to settle?

Nose fillers can take up to 2 weeks to fully settle in, and for any swelling to completely dissipate.

How soon can I see results with nose fillers?

You will see immediate improvements to your nose after a nose filler treatment in Singapore. However, your final nose filler result will only fully realise in about 2 weeks when the filler has settled in. Thereafter, touch-ups can be done to enhance the results.

Nose filler treatments are well-tolerated by most patients. This is because we numb the treatment area with topical anaesthetic (numbing cream) and/or ice packs. Plus, most hyaluronic acid nose fillers are formulated with lidocaine, an anaesthetic, which numbs your nose further during the treatment process. These measures help improve your comfort level throughout the nose filler treatment.

You may feel some initial discomfort at the beginning of the treatment. But this typically eases and dissipates as the lidocaine takes effect.

Of course, not every individual’s pain threshold is the same. Always be sure to let the doctor know if you have a low threshold for pain or are hypersensitive.

Can nose fillers make my nose smaller?

Nose filler treatments can make your nose appear straighter and sharper, which may give it the illusion of becoming “smaller”. But in fact, fillers in their very nature add volume to your nose. It can, however, give balance to the proportions of your nose, making bumps on the nose less conspicuous.

FAQ

What are the side effects of nose fillers?

Common side effects of nose filler treatments are related to any injection treatment such as tenderness, redness, bruising, and swelling. These are temporary and will fade away in a few days.

There is also a chance of the hyaluronic acid filler spreading laterally and taking on more volume in the area, giving you a nose bridge that’s broader than desired. Hyaluronic acid in its very nature attracts water, which can sometimes lead to some degree of water retention in the treated area.

To avoid this, we slightly under-inject the amount of fillers, especially in the nose bridge. Should it occur, we advise patients to moderate their salt intake and give it at least 2 more weeks to allow excess water to drain, before returning for a review. Should this persist, the filler can be dissolved.

There are also other risks and complications that are either reported in medical literature or are theoretical in nature, such as:

  • Bacterial infection of the treatment area – unlikely to occur with a good hygiene protocol.
  • Allergic reaction to filler material – very rare as the fillers are biocompatible.
  • Filler injected into a blood vessel – also a rare occurrence and minimised with proper injection techniques.

Are nose filler treatments safe? Can nose fillers cause blindness?

In general, hyaluronic acid filler injections have a good safety profile. However, complications can arise when nose filler treatments are performed by inexperienced or unlicensed hands.

One serious complication is the vascular occlusion of the renal artery. Or in other words, the blockage of the blood vessel leading to the eyes. This can result in skin necrosis or even blindness in some cases.

At SL Aesthetic Clinic, we have zero cases of vascular occlusion and strive to keep it this way. We do this by continuously updating our doctors’ skills and knowledge.

Plus, our doctors take extra care when injecting into the nose as it’s a delicate area:

1. We use a blunt microcannula to minimise the chances of damaging any blood vessels.
2. We only inject fillers in the midline of the nose bridge, away from the arteries.
3. We inject fillers slowly and incrementally, carefully moderating the pressure as we inject.

Can nose fillers move after treatment?

When performed by a trained doctor, nose fillers do not “normally” move after treatment.

With that said, however, fillers usually take about 2 weeks to settle in and integrate into the area. This is why most cases of filler moving/migrating occur in patients who fail to follow post-treatment instructions.

We advise patients to always avoid any form of exercise for at least 24 hours, and for the next 2 weeks: no excessive touching/massaging of the area, no facials or lasers, and no flying overseas due to cabin pressure.

What is the recovery like and what are the post-treatment instructions after having nose fillers?

It is entirely normal for patients to experience soreness, even immediately after treatment. This is usually minor and temporary. If required, the soreness can be managed with over-the-counter pain medication.

It is also normal for swelling to occur. This happens when local anaesthetic is used. This is temporary and will also dissipate in a day or two.

Despite the swelling and soreness, most patients are free to return to their normal activities, with some exceptions:

  • No alcohol for the next 24 hours – alcohol can worsen swelling.
  • No exercise for the next 24 hours.
  • No excessive touching/massaging of the area for the next 2 weeks.
  • No facials or lasers for the next 2 weeks.
  • No flying overseas for the next 2 weeks.

What are the instructions before a nose filler treatment?

Always inform your doctor of all medications and supplements you are taking, as well as your medical history. You should also plan ahead and give your nose filler treatment a 2-week buffer, especially if you have to attend an important social event.

Am I suitable for nose fillers?

In Singapore, nose filler treatments are suitable if you are a healthy adult looking to improve and enhance the profile of your nose, specifically to heighten the nose bridge or to sharpen your nose tip. Nose fillers are suitable for men and women.

Who is not suitable for nose fillers?

Nose fillers may be unsuitable in the following circumstances:

  • Unrealistic expectations.
  • Pregnant or nursing.
  • Active infection near the site of injection.
  • Known allergy or hypersensitivity to any component of the filler material including lidocaine.
  • Have had a prior complication in the treatment area.

Can nose fillers be combined with nose thread lift?

Yes! Nose fillers can be combined with nose thread lift for a more cohesive result.

In essence, nose fillers are better at adding height and volume, while nose thread lift is better in sculpting and giving your nose more definition.

So if you are looking to improve both the volume and contour of your nose, a combination of both nose filler and nose thread lift can help you achieve optimal results.

What is the price/cost of nose fillers in Singapore?

At SL Aesthetic Clinic, nose filler treatments with our hyaluronic acid fillers start at a price/cost of $700/$800 per syringe, while treatment with our semi-permanent non-hyaluronic acid fillers start from $1,200 per syringe.

The total cost/price of your nose filler treatment depends on your individual requirements, the type of filler used, and whether additional touch-ups or post-treatment reviews are included.
