Profhilo Singapore – What You Need to Know!

profhilo

Along the journey of finding a solution to address ageing woes, you may look for various aesthetic treatments. One of these you can consider is Profhilo skin treatment. Read on to get a better understanding about Profhilo skin treatments.

What Exactly is Profhilo?

profhilo

In short, Profhilo is an injectable skin remodelling treatment. The syringe is filled with a stable form of high concentration hyaluronic acid (HA).

The type of hyaluronic acid that is involved in this particular treatment is thermally cross-linked to generate a stable hybrid complex of high and low molecular-weight hyaluronic acid (H-HA and L-HA) which improves the viscosity and elasticity of the formulation. This also improves its resistance to degradation (the breaking down and elimination of the material over time).

Profhilo injectables contain 32mg of low molecular weight HA (80-100Kda) and 32mg of high molecular weight HA (1100-1400Kda). This creates a total hyaluronic acid amount of 64mg in a 2ml pre-filled syringe, as well as a high concentration of HA.

This runny form of hyaluronic acid is injected into the facial tissue of people whose skin lacks volume or elasticity  Over time, the slow release of hyaluronic acid helps the skin to hydrate and smoothen out for a more youthful appearance. It is non-surgical, meaning that it does not require any cuts in the skin or opening of skin tissue. Profhilo injections can produce results on its own, or it can be combined with other aesthetic procedures for more enhanced results.

How Does Profhilo Work?

profhilo works

Profhilo is injected right below the skin surface. The high concentration hyaluronic acid in the injection syringe is hydrophilic, meaning that it is attracted to water. The hyaluronic acid draws out water from the body, such as the lower layers of skin or other surrounding tissues, and holds on to it. Hence, Profhilo acts more like a ‘hydrator’ to plump up the skin instead of a ‘filler’, which is the external material that is injected into the skin to create an augmented or more volumized appearance.

The effect may take place within 3 to 5 days after treatment, and along the next few weeks post-treatment, the individual’s skin will begin to generate new formation of collagen and elastin. This is especially important due to the drop in collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid levels in the skin when ageing happens. This is also the reason that the formation of wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin seems to accelerate after the age of 30, especially in females. Hence, Profhilo injections can help to reverse some of these changes and give a more rejuvenated and glowing look in the skin. An important thing to note is that ageing can never be permanently reversed, and treatments such as Profhilo injections do NOT create permanent changes; instead they help enhance the hydrating and collagen properties in the skin.

What Results can I Expect from Profhilo?

Among the results that may be commonly expected after the treatment is a hydrated appearance of the skin.

Patients report the appearance of a ‘glow’ or overall radiance in the skin, and fine lines begin to smoothen out. It is often suggested that a course of two treatments be given, each treatment 4 weeks apart. A maintenance session is also recommended about 6-9 months after the second treatment. The maximum effect of Profhilo is usually seen 2 months after the second treatment. Aside from the areas in the skin and décolleté (neck and upper chest), Profhilo injections can also be used in the hands, or other parts of the body that need some rejuvenation.

 How is Profhilo Injected?

The Profhilo skin treatment is injected at about 5 injection points on each side of the face (called Bio Aesthetic Points, BAP), with 10 injection sites total. The choice of these points are decided by considering the dilution of the product so that it can spread evenly across the total surface area to create a more even effect since Profhilo hyaluronic acid will be absorbed within a 2cm radius of its injection site. There is also reduced pain because of the slow injection rate, and a lower possibility of bruising happening.

This usually results in greater patient compliance as well since there is minimal pain and results are satisfying. It may also be preferred by those who are more averse to needles or injections, as it requires less injection points than other treatments.

What are the benefits of Profhilo?

There are several benefits to Profhilo injection treatments, and not just limited to a more youthful appearance. Among some of the benefits of this treatment are:

1. Generally accepted by most bodies

The low and high-molecular weight hyaluronic acid (L-HA and H-HA) in Profhilo injections make it a very stable form of hyaluronic acid. The L-HA is released slowly from the hybrid complexes. This slow release is important as it does not trigger inflammatory cytokines (the chemical molecules which trigger inflammation in the body as a protective response to foreign bodies or cells), making it compatible for most of the healthy population. The H-HA in Profhilo also provides a stable hyaluronic acid architecture in the skin layers to give a nice lifting effect. The stability of this hybrid concentration of hyaluronic acid makes it durable in the skin. Lack of other additive agents like BDDE (1,4-butanedial diglycidyl) also helps to give it it’s biocompatible characteristic – i.e. less allergies and better response in your skin cells.

2. A ‘lifted’ appearance and improved hydration of skin

As the hyaluronic acid is slowly released into the dermis, it allows something called bio-remodeling to take place. The L-HA hybrid complex provides the hydrating effect as it is slowly released, with its hydrophilic properties attracting water into the skin layer and plumping it up. Aside from the lifting effect that the H-HA contributes to, the combination of the hyaluronic acid introduced in the skin begins to kick start the regeneration of collagen and elastin. Type I and III collagen – which are responsible for elasticity and hydration in the body – begin to remodel. Perhaps more interestingly and importantly, Type VI and Type VII collagen also begins to be expressed in keratinocytes. Type VII collagen is necessary to help strengthen the dermal-epidermal junction which mechanically supports the skin, helping to address the concerns of sagging.

3. Natural-looking effects

While dermal fillers are used to alter and augment the shape of facial features to increase volume and contours, Profhilo does not have any role in restructuring the face. Its effects are typically attributed mainly to its ability to hydrate and plump up the skin. Think of it like a really good moisturiser, just from within. The hydrating effects take place from the inside out, instead of from the outside in, like with a serum or moisturising face mask. This is why it is often referred to as ‘injectable skincare’. Also, unlike the risk that comes with facial augmentation fillers, there is no such thing as ‘overdoing Profhilo’. The amount used for the initial Profhilo injections are standardised, and there is no risk of looking puffy afterwards.

4. Minimal pain, downtime, or side effects

For those worried about pain, a topical numbing cream is usually applied over the injection areas before the procedure is done. This highly minimises any pain associated with the procedure to give you a comfortable experience. After the procedure is done, there may be some mild itchiness or swelling like a mosquito bite over the Bio Aesthetic Points where the injections are done. If you have more sensitive or thin skin and are prone to bruising, there may be some bruising that happens, as with all treatments that involve the use of a needle into the skin.

This bruising can take up to 2 weeks to fade, but since large blood vessels are avoided during this Profhilo injection technique, the bruises are usually small areas that can usually be concealed with makeup. The benefit of Profhilo and its lesser injection points are also that if you are prone to bruising, the number of bruising sites will be much less. This is a point of consideration for individuals who are busy with their daily lives and want to minimise recovery time.

The downtime for Profhilo injections are minimal, and normal routines can be resumed immediately after treatments. However, keep in mind that since Profhilo is an injectable procedure, it is recommended to avoid excessive physical activities (such as high impact sports or endurance activities) for at least a day after treatment.

This allows enough time for the sites of injection to heal well. A hot sauna or bath is also discouraged as it can cause excessive dilation of blood vessels around the face and areas of injection, and affect healing. As always, avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight, and apply a good sunscreen when going out.

Are There any Side Effects of Profhilo Treatment?

Side effects of Profhilo treatment are minimal, if not rare, aside from those mentioned above, as long as the individual is cleared for treatment. Profhilo is a high-purity form of hyaluronic acid with no additives; hence, side effects are minimised. The only group of candidates who are not recommended for Profhilo treatments are those who are pregnant and breastfeeding. It is also contraindicated for those who have a known allergy to hyaluronic acid.

Who is suitable for Profhilo?

Profhilo skin injections are suitable for any individual who presents with skin that is already showing signs of ageing.

This technique that uses the injection of hyaluronic acid into the Bio Aesthetic Points of the face or the decollete is usually preferred by those who are not comfortable with the use of cannulas. For those who are needle-phobic, the small 29g TW needle used in Profhilo treatments makes it less noticeable at the points of injection.

Another point of consideration when thinking about who is suitable for Profhilo is according to the expectations of the individual. Aesthetic treatments can usually be grouped into the ‘restorative’ category – those who have already experienced signs of ageing, and want to get their problem areas addressed through the use of Skinboosters or Profhilo injections, filler augmentation, or even laser therapy. One added advantage of

Profhilo treatments is that theyare not just suitable for those in the ‘restorative’ category, i.e. those who are more mature, but they are also very suitable for those in the ‘preventative’ category – i.e. those who have yet to progress far along the ageing journey, but would like to maintain the texture and hydration of their skin.

How Much Does Profhilo Treatment in Singapore Cost?

One syringe is required per treatment session. One Profhilo pre-filled syringe is 2mls of volume. This also depends on the area of treatment (e.g. whether it is just the face or the entire décolleté involved). The price starts from $1000 to $1400, depending on the individual, per session of Profhilo. We recommend 3 sessions for best results.
