Fotona Acne Laser Treatment Singapore

Lasers are effective, proven ways to treat acne, even amongst adults.

Read more on what you need to know about the Fotona Nd:YAG Laser Acne Treatment.

Is laser treatment good for acne?

Yes! Lasers and other light therapies are effective in treating and reducing mild to moderate acne. They can be part of an effective acne treatment plan.

What is laser acne removal?

Laser acne removal is the treatment of acne using a high-powered Long Pulse Nd:YAG Laser. It is a non-invasive treatment performed by a certified doctor.

At SL Aesthetic Clinic in Singapore, we use the Fotona brand of Nd:YAG Laser. Fotona is an international medical equipment producer with a focus in laser technology.

How does laser acne treatment work?

how does laser treat acne in Singapore

The Fotona Long Pulse Nd:YAG Laser penetrates deeply into the skin to create thermal effects without damaging the skin’s surface.

At pre-determine depths, the laser treats acne by:

  1. Destroying acne-causing bacteria.
  2. Selectively targeting overactive sebaceous glands to control skin oil production.

Plus, the Fotona Long Pulse Nd:YAG laser also encourages your skin to heal by stimulating collagen remodelling. This is an important step in long-term acne treatment, as it not only stops the acne and future inflammation, it also promotes recovery of the skin, thereby minimising scar formation.

What is the treatment experience like?

Once you’ve been determined to be a suitable candidate by the doctor, you can begin treatment. Topical numbing is optional.

You’ll be given a pair of protective eyewear at the start of the treatment to maximise your comfort.

During treatment, you will feel a slight prickling of your skin as the doctor runs the laser piece over the acne on your face.

When the doctor has completed the treatment, you will be taken care of by our aesthetic assistants to apply post-treatment recovery creams.

Is laser treatment for acne painful?

No. Most patients find this tolerable even without topical numbing. Should you require, additional numbing can be applied beforehand.

Does laser remove acne permanently?

acne laser singapore permanent

No. There is no single treatment that can remove acne permanently.

The causes of acne are multi-fold and complicated. Lasers help control just a fraction of these causes, and cannot prevent future acne formation that arise from other factors.

This is why lasers should just be one part of a comprehensive acne treatment plan that includes other acne treatments like acne medications, chemical peels, injections, and so on.

Plus, lifestyle habits, diet, and a sound skin regimen is crucial to the prevention and management of acne.

How many treatments are required to see results?

Patients with mild to moderate acne typically require about 3 to 6 sessions, while those with moderate to severe acne may need up to 9 sessions or more. Treatment sessions are performed once every 2 weeks.

Results are gradual and accumulative, so the “final” result can only be seen after your final session.

What is the cost of Fotona Long Pulse Acne Laser treatment?

The price of our Fotona Long Pulse Nd:YAG Laser Acne Treatment is $350 per session.

How long is one treatment session?

Each Fotona Nd:YAG Laser Acne treatment session can take around 15 to 20 minutes. An optional 30-min numbing can be done prior to the session if desired.

Are there any side effects?

There are no side effects other than slight redness and mild swelling of the treatment area. These will subside in a matter of hours.

What is the downtime?

There is virtually no downtime. You are free to return to your daily activities. We recommend that patients avoid prolonged sun exposure for the next few days to prevent hyperpigmentation.

How long will results last?

Once your acne is fully treated as part of a comprehensive acne treatment plan, it is unlikely that you’ll require any maintenance sessions.

This is because the Fotona Laser not only treats active acne, but also limits and prevents future inflammation.

What are the pre- and post- treatment instructions?

Pre-treatment instructions: ensure that you’re in a good state of health and not suffering from any bacterial, fungal or viral infection in the treatment area. Always disclose your full medical history during consultation, including supplements and other medications you may be taking.

Plan ahead; avoid any ablative lasers at least 4 weeks prior, and schedule your treatment at least 1 week ahead of a special even as the skin may take up to 7 days to fully heal from the laser.

Also inform the doctor at least a week before treatment if you have any history of Herpes Simplex (cold sores) on the treatment area so that the appropriate medication can be prescribed to prevent an outbreak.

While pregnant women are free to enjoy this treatment, you must also inform your doctor about your pregnancy, or plan for pregnancy or if you are nursing.

Inform your doctor if you have other skin conditions (e.g., eczema, psoriasis) or have any unusual or allergic reactions to any ingredients or topicals.

Do not use products that can cause irritation such as alcohol-based facial products, abrasive scrubs, and toners or products containing glycolic acids or Retin A.

Post-treatment instructions: after each treatment session, avoid prolonged sun exposure for the next 7 to 10 days. Also avoid tanning beds or tanning booths and sunlamps. Continue to wash and moisturise your face with a gentle cleanser and moisturiser for the next few days and always use sunscreen.

Who’s suitable for Fotona Long Pulse Nd:YAG Laser Acne Treatment?

It can also be considered should other acne treatments prove unbeneficial, or if the patient is unable to receive other acne treatments or medications.

Any healthy adult looking to treat an active acne condition, no matter how mild or severe.

Who’s unsuitable?

The Fotona Long Pulse Nd:YAG Laser Acne Treatment may be unsuitable in the following circumstances:

  • Patients with unrealistic expectations, such as those who seek immediate or complete eradication of acne.
  • Patients with a tendency to form keloid and hypertrophic scars.
  • Prior ionising radiation to the area to be treated.
  • Connective tissue diseases.
  • Recent deep chemical peels or abrasions.
