Oral spironolactone is an oral medication prescribed to treat hormonal acne. It lowers the amount of androgens produced in the body, thereby reducing acne.

Spironolactone is best for healthy women who have hormonal acne or those who have persistent acne despite undergoing other treatments in the past. Not suitable for breastfeeding, pregnant women or women trying to get pregnant.
