Acne treatment at SL Aesthetic Clinic runs the gamut, from acne lasers, Ethosome Gold PTT to oral medication. Aklief treatment, a topical medication, is one of them.
Aklief is a topical acne medication used to treat acne on the face, chest, shoulders and back. It contains the retinoid trifarotene, which affects the growth of cells, prevents the formation of new acne and reduces inflammation associated with acne and pimples.
Aklief contains trifarotene, a 4th generation retinoid that works to specifically target RAR-y, a retinoic acid receptor in the skin. Doing so can:
In clinical studies, Aklief (trifarotene) has been shown to demonstrate improved tolerability compared with existing topical retinoids such as differin and epiduo. It is the first retinoid approved by the U.S FDA to treat acne, and also the only retinoid approved to treat truncal acne.
In clinical trials, participants showed improvements in their facial acne in as soon as 2 weeks – but individual results vary and your doctor would be able to advise better.
Apart from the obvious acne benefits, since Aklief contains a retinoid, users of this product can also reap the benefits of using retinoids such as;
However, please take note that Aklief is after all still an acne treatment, so its purpose of use should still be for acne. If you are interested in improving skin texture, our friendly team can recommend focused treatments.
The most common side effects associated with Aklief are site irritation, itching, and sunburn. These side effects are likely to happen during the first 4 weeks of treatment – this is normal as your skin gets used to the product.
To reduce your risk of developing side effects, moisturise your skin as much as possible when you are on Aklief skin treatment. During treatment, you should also:
Aklief can help reduce blackheads and whiteheads, or comedonal acne.
Both Aklief and WINLEVI are topical medication for acne. The main difference is Aklief’s main ingredients is trifarotene, a retinoid that unclogs pores; while WINLEVI contains clascoterone, an antiandrogen that targets acne-causing hormones. WINLEVI is not available in Singapore.
