Dr Charlene Goh: Most People Are Better Suited for Nose Fillers. Here’s Why.

Nose Filler Treatment Singapore

Do you find yourself scrutinising your profile in the mirror, wishing you had a slimmer, more defined nose? You’re not alone.

There’s been a surge in interest in cosmetic enhancements to the nose – question is, is a rhinoplasty or nose fillers better?

The broad answer is it depends – but in my experience as an aesthetic doctor, most people are more well equipped to go through with nose fillers instead. Allow me to explain why.

Non-invasive Procedure

A nose job, or rhinoplasty, is a surgical procedure performed under general anaesthesia and may require the use of cartilage from other parts of your body, depending on how complex your surgery is. While results are usually visible six weeks post surgery, it can take months to even a year for your new nose to settle into place.

Nose fillers, on the other hand, involve injecting hyaluronic acid to reshape and enhance specific areas of the nose. Treatment by injection means no incisions, no anaesthesia, and significantly reduced risks.

This boils down to what you’re willing to deal with – for the most part, the discomfort and downtime that comes with a nose job is enough to deter many.

Subtle Changes

Not everyone is looking for a dramatic transformation. Many individuals want to enhance certain aspects of their appearance while maintaining a natural look. Nose fillers are good for providing subtle changes that can make a significant difference.

If this is your first time getting work done for your nose, I recommend starting with nose fillers first before jumping into surgery. This is to gauge how much adjustment you really need and what nose shape looks best on you.

Quick and Effective

Imagine walking into a clinic feeling self-conscious about your nose and walking out shortly with a more refined, balanced appearance. That’s the beauty of nose filler treatment – the results typically take only an hour to show. However, with surgical rhinoplasty, you would have to wait weeks or even months to see the outcome.

Most importantly, many clients are satisfied with the results achieved through nose fillers. In a study, more than 96% of participants were ‘very satisfied’ with their results.

Minimal Downtime

Undergoing surgery often requires a significant amount of downtime for recovery. With extended rest, you must take time off work, avoid strenuous activities, and potentially deal with post-operative discomfort.

With nose fillers, downtime is dramatically reduced. Most people do not require time off work or their usual activities after getting a nose filler. While you might experience some mild swelling or bruising immediately after the treatment, these effects usually subside within a few days.

Less Pain

The fear of pain is a significant concern for many who are considering cosmetic procedures.

Surgical rhinoplasty leaves you with painful lacerations from incisions and sometimes the shaving of the nasal bone, but nose fillers offer a relatively painless experience. The injections are often followed by a mild stinging sensation, but this discomfort is minimal and short-lived.

Temporary Nature

A surgical rhinoplasty is a lifelong commitment as results are irreversible – while you technically can go for corrective rhinoplasty, you can never get your nose back to how it was.

Nose filler treatment, on the other hand, offers a temporary solution. If you’re unsure about a particular look or not entirely satisfied with the initial outcome and want a redo, fillers allow that flexibility. Over time, the fillers’ effects naturally diminish, allowing you to reassess your preferences. Also, there is the option of dissolving hyaluronic acid fillers altogether should you want to revert back to your original appearance.

Cost-effective

Surgical procedures in Singapore can come with a hefty price tag. The expenses can add up quickly, from surgeon fees to facility and anaesthesia fees.

Nose filler treatment, on the other hand, offers a more budget-friendly option. While the cost of fillers can vary based on the type and amount used, it’s generally a more affordable choice for younger individuals who are on a budget and want to see results quickly..

Fear of Surgery

Undergoing surgery is naturally anxiety-inducing – fear of the operating room, anaesthesia and potential complications.

For many patients looking to enhance their nose shape, what they need can easily be achieved without the need for surgery. A little filler goes a long way – if you can achieve your desired look without going under the knife, why not?

As always, speak to a professional to weigh your options.
