Will Lip Fillers Suit Your Face? Here’s A Guide To Help

Lip Filler Guide

A good face is like a letter of recommendation! With our face being the first thing that catches another person’s eye when we meet someone new or go out in public, our first impressions last a long time. Because of this, many people are concerned about looking their best and although it may seem superficial, the need and want to look presentable in public runs deep. We want to appear at our best so we can feel happy with the way we look, and that inadvertently improves our confidence. As our confidence increases, we also find it easier to communicate and relate to others, be it family, friends, or our colleagues at work.

So although talking about our skin, hair, and facial proportions might seem odd at the dinner table, it’s definitely something that we end up thinking of regularly… And among those things that we think of for sure is our lip shape! With superstars like Kylie Jenner and Angelina Jolie being lauded for the size and shape of their lips, it’s not something to dismiss. A balanced lip shape in proportion with the rest of our face can go a long way – after all, beauty has been defined as “a state of harmony – a balance of facial proportions – a balanced relationship among skeletal structures, teeth, and soft tissue” in journals dating back to 1987. Lip fillers in Singapore are one way that you are able to balance out your facial proportions, so read on!

What Are Lip Fillers?

Lip fillers are a form of facial fillers that help to increase volume in the targeted regions. When done correctly and with the right lip fillers that suit your face shape, this can help to achieve well-proportioned features and enhance a V-shaped face.

Lip filler injections are inserted through the use of a small needle into different areas of the lip, where it will be moulded to fit the desired shape and contour that the individual wants to achieve. Some fillers already contain lidocaine in it – a type of anaesthetic – which helps to prevent pain during the procedure. Other fillers do not contain anaesthetic and a topical anaesthetic, or numbing cream, is applied over the lips for 15-30 minutes before the procedure happens.

How Can Lip Fillers Change The Face?

Remember seeing images of lip fillers gone wrong, with ‘duck lips’ that pop out unnaturally from their face? This draws the most attention to their lips instead of their face as a whole. For most people – unless so desired! – this will not happen, as lip fillers should complement a person’s face instead of changing it to become the centre of attention.

Looking sideways, if a straight line is drawn from the base of the nose (sn, ‘subnasion’) to the tip of the chin (pog, ‘pogonion’), the upper lip should project 3.5mm anterior to the line and the lower lip 2.2mm, and the upper lip should project slightly more than the lower lip again about the ratio of 1.6:1. This is what is called optimal lip projection, although it varies from individual to individual. These proportions in the wrong ratio can lead to a ‘trout pout’ or ‘duck lips’.

What Is The Best Type Of Filler To Use For The Lips?

There are several options of fillers available to use in the facial regions, which are either non-permanent hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers or non-hyaluronic acid semi-permanent types of fillers. Among these hyaluronic acid fillers, there also exist different brands and molecular weights of hyaluronic acid among them. These fillers are often chosen because of their ability to be dissolved with the use of hyaluronidase, an enzyme that breaks it down if results are not satisfactory or a person would like to change their lip shape again in the future.

Fillers in the face are also often chosen based on the areas that they are to be used for – areas like the nose, chin, cheeks, and foreheads may require a heavier molecular filler to fill in the depressions or to contour the face better; more superficial areas around the eyes or lip fillers will require a lighter molecular filler.

Some examples of common temporary and dissolvable hyaluronic acid fillers choices used in Singapore are:

  • Juvéderm® VOLUX
  • Restylane® Lyft or Silk
  • Belotero© Volume
  • Teosyal© Ultra Deep

However, Juvéderm® VOLUX, Belotero© Volume and Restylane® Silk are the types of fillers most commonly chosen for lip fillers. These three fillers are all FDA-approved (2006, 2011, and 2017 respectively) for use in lip augmentation, although there may be other types of hyaluronic acid-based lip fillers suitable depending on your individual needs. This is usually achieved after a doctor’s consultation to identify the area and depth of fillers to be used as different brands have different advantages and disadvantages.

How Much Will Lip Fillers Cost?

The price of lip fillers in Singapore depends on the volume of fillers needed for the areas, and also the type of filler used. In general, it can start anywhere from $800 to $1,200 per 1ml syringe of fillers. Having a consultation with one of our doctors will help to clarify the amount and type of filler needed for you.

Why Should You Get Lip Fillers?

There are many reasons why an individual may choose to get lip fillers! From having a more evenly proportioned face, to changing thin lips into lips that are plump and voluptuous, to just wanting a fuller pout, we can all agree that the main reason why someone should get lip fillers is to start feeling happier with the way they look.

Since your face is something that you will carry with you throughout your life, it’s definitely easy to see why you would want to improve features wherever you can and put your best face forward in life.

And since lip fillers are typically safe, made from stable hyaluronic acid ingredients which are already contents found naturally in your body, and can be dissolved if you decide you want to change things up again, getting lip fillers is an easy option for those just getting started on filler injections!

Altering the features of the face is not a one-size-fits-all approach. Your doctor will have to assess your own individual face shape to recommend the right adjustments and lip shape for you. Hence, making the time for an initial consultation with a trained professional can help to prevent any dissatisfaction after aesthetic procedures are done.
