Daxxify, also known as Daxibotulinum toxinA-lanm, is a peptide-powered injectable wrinkle treatment. It is FDA-approved for the treatment of frown lines.
Daxxify utilises a peptide to stabilise the active ingredient instead of relying on human or animal-derived products. The peptide formulation enhances efficacy while addressing concerns regarding potential allergens and ethical considerations associated with human and animal byproducts.
Where can Daxxify be injected, and what can it treat?
Daxxify is approved only for treatment of frown lines, which are the vertical lines between the eyebrows when making a frown. Daxxify is currently not available in Singapore.
While both work similarly to reduce the appearance of wrinkles by temporarily relaxing underlying muscles, Daxxify is approved only for treating frown lines.
Its formulation is also different from Botox’s formulation. In Daxxify, the toxin responsible for temporarily blocking muscle signals is bound to a protein, which contributes to prolonging its effects on treated muscles. Studies show that Daxxify results can last up to six months, which is longer than Botox’s average of three to four months.
Also, Daxxify is the first FDA-approved injectable neurotoxin formulated with a peptide as a stabiliser, unlike Botox, which requires a human-derived agent to stabilise it.
Using a stabilising peptide instead of human blood products provides a safer alternative and enhances efficacy. A formulation devoid of animal byproducts would also appeal to individuals seeking cruelty-free and ethically sourced treatments.
Like any medical procedure, Daxxify has some potential side effects. While adverse reactions are rare, some people may experience pain, redness, or bruising at the injection site.
The most common side effects happen within one to two weeks after injection and last only a short while. This occurrence is consistent with other frown line treatments.
Currently, Daxxify is only recommended for the smoothing of frown lines. Botox would be a better option for a lip flip.
